Java 1.4 service life has ended according to SUN

June 9th, 2009 Posted in Java

Now that Java 1.4 has been on the market for a long time, recently I receive an email from Sun Microsystems telling me that the Java 1.4 had reached the end of its life cycle. And soon will the Java 1.5 will die too. This is interesting because many of the systems used today still are using the Java 1.4 on their systems, and because it was a very stable version of the Java products many people still are using it. But I guess it is time for all that companies to move to a new version , and I hope the best for the new JEE and Java 7. Here is the complete email that sun send me , announcing that. But they have a “plan” to keep supporting that if you pay a XXX amount of money and you will be insure to have 15 years of support with SUN.

Thanks for your interest in Sun’s Java platform. Now that the J2SE 1.4.2 platform has hit its end of service life, and J2SE 5.0 will reach its end of service life soon, it’s important that you have a plan for reliable, affordable ongoing support .
